Have yourself a local little Christmas

Here at the Black Boy Inn we’re pretty passionate about using locally-sourced ingredients in the food we serve at our award-winning dining areas. We are proud to champion a “field to fork” ethos, serving food sourced as locally as possible from suppliers around Gwynedd and Anglesey.

Which means that if you join us for a pre-booked Christmas party at the Black Boy Inn this year, you can rely on a good selection of locally-sourced ingredients taking pride of place on our Christmas menu.

Of course, buying local isn’t necessarily always about food; at this time of year it means so much more to buy gifts, trimmings and other festive goods from small, local businesses – and my goodness, Caernarfon is packed with those!

To encourage residents and visitors to shop local at Christmas, Gwynedd Council is offering free parking in its car parks during the festive period. So please do have a lovely shopping day in Caernarfon and discover the fantastic festive treats offered by our local independent shops. For example…

At Bonta Deli, you can buy some stunning Welsh produce, like cheeses, preserves and hampers. These are lovely as gifts as well as for stocking your own larder for the festive period.

For gorgeous and unusual jewellery gifts, pop into Siop iard where you’ll see beautiful pieces made by talented local designers including Ann Catrin Evans, Elin Mair and Angela Evans. They also offer a range of courses throughout the year – a fantastic treat for yourself or a really unusual gift for a loved one, if you’re looking for something a bit different.

At Lotti & Wren you’ll find all kinds of interesting knick-knacks, things for the home, gifts for babies and children, lovely toiletries, and even some gorgeous women’s clothing. This is one of those amazing little treasure troves that you’ll rarely come out of empty-handed!

For the bookworm in your life, you can’t beat Palas Print. With the online giants squeezing independent bookshops in recent years, they’re becoming a bit of a rarity on the high street… but Palas Print remains a firm favourite in Caernarfon, we’re very happy to say. There’s a fantastic range of books and greetings cards on sale at this excellent shop – and they have an impressive stock of Welsh-language publications too, crucial for helping our beautiful language to thrive. What’s more, there’s always a good selection of Welsh music to give your ears a treat!

This is just a tiny selection of the amazing independent shops in Caernarfon. To discover more, pay a visit to our wonderful town soon; explore the back streets, the little nooks and crannies where our local independent businesses nestle; and when you’ve finished your shopping, pop into the Black Boy Inn for a well-deserved meal. You’ve earned it!
