This Year… Discover North Wales!
Well it’s another year, this year following The Year of Epic, The Year of Legends and the Year of the Sea – This year is all about the year of Discovery! This is perfect – as there is so much to explore in NORTH WALES.
With such a wide variety of locations and attractions to visit, it’s an adventurers paradise.
With the likes of the mountains of Snowdonia, staggering coastline, the characteristic islands, verdant green countryside, Blue Flag Beaches and much more.
There is a whole host of things to discover this year in North Wales.
The mountains of Snowdonia, are home to the eponymous ‘Yr Wyddfa’ or Snowdon’, There’s also the Toblerone-esque craggy point of Tryfan – as well as the two Glyders – all favourites of mountaineers in the UK and internationally.

The mountains hold the legends and myths of the paths with many stories of the Mabinogion, a chronicle of the ancient tales of Wales.
The coastline is truly a wonder for appreciation, with all manner and variety of seaside environments – cliffs, resorts, wide swathes of sandy beach, and towering dunes. Not to mention the many seaside lighthouses which stand besides the ocean, historically guiding ships past the rock formations of the coast.
There are also amazing seaside locations like Caernarfon, Porthdinllaen, and Llandudno which are all within driving distance from one another and have equally amazing historical significance and beauty.
The Islands of North Wales include the beautiful isle of Anglesey or the Welsh ‘Ynys Mons’, this beautifully formed island is famous for its wonderful beaches and equally amazing verdant green inland countryside.
Just of the coast of Anglesey is the tidal island of Ynys Llanddwyn, and it’s famous white lighthouse – this is an Instagrammer’s dream to visit as the secluded beautiful beaches and make for an outstanding. It also holds a place in Wales’ mythology as the home of Princess Dwynwen, the patron saint of Love.
Talking of discovery, did you know that the town of Denbigh was home to famous Welsh adventurer and explorer HM Stanley of ‘Dr. Livingstone I Presume?’. The nearby valley of Fynnon Beuno is additionally the location of an ancient and holy well in which pilgrims would come from far and wide and bathe because of it’s apparent healing properties.
Explore the arts and cultures of this year – you can start by checking out some of the wonderful creative hubs and centres in the area, such as Llandudno Oriel Mostyn, Galeri Caernarfon – which sits on the seafront of Caernarfon and hosts not only great theatre performances but has recently had a massive investment for it’s £2million Cinema extension.
Just south of the Lleyn Peninsula is the wonderful Italianate resort village of Portmeirion which has been carefully architected as a paradisiacal resort location – this was actually the location for filming TV series ‘The Prisoner’. With it’s amazing views over the crystalline oceanic views and secret woodland.
The amazing Pontcysyllte aqueduct is also an amazing location which is renown throughout the globe. The raised aqueduct carries canal boats through the air as they sail over the bridge. Truly a spectacular view.
